Title: Any good movies lately?
Description: seen a good flick? Tell us about it.

psycholopher - January 4, 2005 08:20 AM (GMT)
I admit that I enjoyed "Napoleon Dynamite," which I saw about a week ago. Haven't seen that many great movies lately though...

Others?

Boru - January 4, 2005 07:06 PM (GMT)
Napolean Dynamite was a good one.

The last movie I saw in the theaters was Spiderman 2, which was enjoyable but not good.

I did recently watch the Lady Killers, which I think is good. I'd also recommend Saved, I watched that about a month ago and was impressed with it.

Deltasix - January 4, 2005 09:12 PM (GMT)
I haven't seen a new movie in months, but some of them coming out on DVD I rent. Sadly nothing good though

Bigfoot - January 5, 2005 02:33 AM (GMT)
I loved The Life Aquatic.

MetGreDKo - January 5, 2005 11:32 AM (GMT)
The last movie I saw in theaters was The Village - crap.

On television or DVD I have been watching Zulu (1964) mostly.

Deltasix - January 5, 2005 08:52 PM (GMT)
Oh well, including old movies, I'd have to say I watched the old Robin Hood the other day, well the one with Erol Flynn. That was awesome

Bigfoot - January 6, 2005 01:06 AM (GMT)
I own that movie. its great.

BlakWhiteClix - January 6, 2005 09:08 PM (GMT)
Napoleon Dynamite was definitely an awesome movie, and I just saw The Aviator, which was really great. Has anyone seen Garden State? If so, how was it?

Boru - January 6, 2005 10:31 PM (GMT)
I saw Garden State. It was enjoyable, but I don't know that I would refer to it as "good." It was predictable but nonetheless enjoyable.

Bigfoot - January 7, 2005 05:05 AM (GMT)
Watch all of those. I want to see "I am DAvid", "Hotel Ruwanda" and a few others.

Deltasix - January 7, 2005 07:43 PM (GMT)
Dogma was interesting, didn't much care for it. But fight club....wow, that was an awesome movie, I'd recommend seeing that, most definatly.

Purple - January 8, 2005 04:01 AM (GMT)
The Filth and the Fury: A sex Pistols documentary.

Johnny rotten is ingenous
its punk history
great documentary
entertaining

MetGreDKo - January 9, 2005 10:57 AM (GMT)
I saw Shaun of the Dead yesterday........nice? *shrugs*

I didn't care much for Dogma although Fight Club was okay.

Insalubrity - January 9, 2005 07:54 PM (GMT)
I saw michael moore 9/11 movie. Interesting but deffinately over the top slanted. I do however find it appauling some of the stuff that the bush administrations has said on camera.

But for really good movies:
Fight club
true Romance
Kill bill 1&2
Oceans 11 and 12 were good

And thats about it as of late.

Fight Club
DOgma

Those two movies were great.
Dogma, I thought, was awesome.
Fight Club, however, is just on another level altogether. It's awesome in every sense of the word.

Definitely watch those two.

I saw it and loved it. It's now one of my favorite movies :P

I really want to see Closer, has anyone seen that one yet?

Bigfoot - February 2, 2005 04:48 AM (GMT)
I loved The Village (best ending ever).

psycholopher - February 2, 2005 05:05 AM (GMT)
The Life Aquatic. Decent Wes Anderson film. Not as good as Royal Tenenbaums though.

Bigfoot - February 2, 2005 05:25 AM (GMT)
I would agree with that.

This isnt a new film but did anyone else like Good Will Hunting?

psycholopher - February 2, 2005 05:28 AM (GMT)
Yeah, decent movie. Didn't think it was as great as everyone else did though. But it was good.

Boru - February 2, 2005 07:00 PM (GMT)
Good Will Hunting was a good film. Definitely better than Titanic (they came out at about the same time I think)

Agreed! :)

Fight Club was really excellent. I'd also like to say I really liked how they did the Village, those who havent seen it should rent it. Its not worth buying, but definitely worth veiwing once.

King'O'Roff - February 4, 2005 09:40 AM (GMT)
I ROBOT - very good
SHAUN OF THE DEAD - funny, but too much of spoof of "Dawn of the dead". I shan't imagine any of you in the US have heard of it let alone watched it?

chav hunter - February 4, 2005 12:21 PM (GMT)
There has been no truely great documentaries recently. The best documentary ever was Forest Gump

King'O'Roff - February 4, 2005 02:59 PM (GMT)
It's very hard to find a movie that hasn't been infected with the "is it worth it?" bug that affects most movies nowadays.

Deltasix - February 4, 2005 08:25 PM (GMT)
Actually Shaun of the Dead is quite a big movie here as well. And I havn't read I Robot, but I'm told it has nothing over the book.

Boru - February 9, 2005 05:53 PM (GMT)
Haha,
King do give American Culture some credit. We do import good stuff.

Shaun of the Dead did make it across the pond if you will and as Delta said has made quite a splash among horror film fans. I'm waiting for it to come out on video before watching it. It also has lead to the rediscovery of the original director of Dawn of the Dead. He's been commissioned to make a few more horror movies by some major studio (I forget the details. One of my flat mates was telling me about it over dinner and it's from E! magazine or some such publication like that.)

Has anyone seen Merchant of Venice? It just came out recently and has Al Pucino as Shylock. I'm wondering if it's worth seeing.

Ha, ha, sorry then, my bad. It's already out over here...you'll enjoy it. I promise.

And delistix? No movie is as good as the bookm it's based on.

Deltasix - February 14, 2005 11:58 AM (GMT)
This one is particually bad though.

And I could name a few that where close, very close.

King'O'Roff - February 14, 2005 12:45 PM (GMT)
Oh, really? Do tell.

Deltasix - February 14, 2005 02:03 PM (GMT)
Most plays follow the books pretty well :P

For one, Dune. Sure its a 4 hour long movie and the like, but it follows the book pretty well.

King'O'Roff - February 14, 2005 05:25 PM (GMT)
Ever watched Kenneth Branough's version of Henry V? Very good...

*though Henry V is really a play...but they have the same problems as books*

Boru - February 14, 2005 08:46 PM (GMT)
My Da swears that there is a movie that was better than the book, unfortunately I forget the title.

It was about a village in Italy during WWII that was famous for some particular wine. The villagers catch word that the Nazi's are coming through as they're pulling out of Italy (retreating from the Allies) so they hide all the wine and the Nazi's stop off to take as much with them as they can, but obviously can't find it. Hilarity and drama ensue as the Nazi's start question people frantically trying to get the wine before the Allies catch up with them. The last scene is great (from what I've heard, I haven't seen the movie) but I won't spoil it for you. I will however, try and get the name of the movie from my Dad.

Shakespeare wrote many plays about Kings, many of which with the name of Henry. I for some reason find it amusing.

I heard that the Garden State is good, but I haven't seen it myself.

King'O'Roff - February 18, 2005 12:13 PM (GMT)
ah-well

Jay - February 21, 2005 09:16 PM (GMT)
I just saw The Notebook last night. It is the best movie ever.

I recommend it to everyone :D

Boru - February 21, 2005 09:36 PM (GMT)
my coworker recommended The Hitch if you want a good laugh.

Deltasix - February 22, 2005 04:47 PM (GMT)
Oh, the other day I saw "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle"
Its not exactly new, or good, but if you are in the mood for a funny movie, its great.
