Title: Hello, New here!
Description: Liam in England

Hymagumba - July 7, 2007 10:53 PM (GMT)
Hello all and Good Evening - or morning/afternoon. (Delete as applicable)

I'm Liam, I'm 18 and live in a village in Northern England. Although fortunately for me, not as far north as Yorkshire and Humberside where people have experienced some of the worst flooding on record... we're having an atrocious summer all round here in NW Europe! A bit about me: I'm Welsh born and was raised in rural North Wales in my very infant years, but lived in England for 16 of my 18 years, my family is English so naturally consider myself English! Although ancestrally, I am also a quarter Scottish from my mothers side and Irish influence is also in the family in the form of my grandfather, hence my Irish name! I've finished my A levels (History Politics, Business) and VI Form last month and hope to study History at Uni, I am something of a history buff. I'm into all manner things, mainly current affairs and politics, but also literature, films and classic British comedy.

My favourite periods of history vary considerably, from the late mediaeval period and the reformation, to Early Modern British and European. In particular though, 16th Century European which I think was populated by some wonderful personalities! Luther, Charles V, Philip II, Catherine de Medici, Henri of Navarre etc and some crucial events - Reformation, Wars of Religion, Dutch Revolt and some important political developments which later led to Divine Right of Kings, resistance to legitimate authority. I'm also interested in other similar tosh such historic architecture, of which we have in spades over here, so overall I tend to be interested in things that seem to induce many my age to take a sharp exit, sadly! I'm also a bit of a techie, but no sort of expert although I am quick to grasp things!

Politically, I am a conservative, of the old school though and not this Cameronism of effectively emulating Blairism. What 'call-me-Dave', has done has capitalised on the imploding of labour, while moving the party to the left, when the whole county is moving to the right. I think many people here are tired of meaningless centerist politics and target driven government policies. We need an opposition/government that actually offers a different 'ideal'. I am strictly a unionist, I do support Europe, but irritated with this governments failure to control the immigration problem properly - I also don't support the euro for Britain. I do however, think Brown is a refreshing change from Blair's 'celebrity' prime ministership as it is known and welcome his 'head down' approach and proposals to surrender of some power of the executive Parliament (I didn't think much of his performance in PMQ's on Wednesday though!). I am a traditionalist and monarchist (only of the constitutional monarchy under parliament, however). I'm also a bit sporadic when it comes to posting on forums, but I do lurk regularly at those which gage my inertest and I do like the look of the place here!

Liam

Hello Liam,

Good to have you join us here. There are a few bloody good Brits running around here, maybe even a Scot or Ire. Hope you like to talk futbol, as Delta is a HUGE fan of that sport with a few others chiming in at times. Most of the stuff here revolves around the more serious categories. So enjoy and let us (admins) know if you have any questions or thoughts.

Hello and welcome.

Speaking of admins though. Why am I still an admin?

Because working 40+ hours a week limits my activity here. And, cause I'm too lazy to change you back. And cause I'm sick.

Yeah.
