Title: Maternal Instincts

Sometimes am wondering if cats multiply faster than rabbits. When moving up here in 2002, had one cat... which has ended up becoming 11 currently. Most of them are from the daughter of the original pet.

Sadly, we had a 4th generation litter for a whole 2-3 days. The youngest female had a stillborn and then later delivered a little premature kitten. Not exactly sure if she failed to nurse it or if the kitten failed to suckle. Either way, the end result was a 3rd kitten to be found dead this year.

Now that young female isn't quite a year old yet. She had her two kittens after her mom had a litter of 6. Anyway, more to the point....

Today is the third time we've discovered that young female (named "Missy") had carried off one of her mother's kittens. After finding it behind the tool-shed, had returned it back with the rest of it's siblings only later to have found it come up missing again. While it could be yo-yo'd back and forth... guess maybe it is a good idea to let the young cat 'cuddle' it. Apparently Missy's maternal instincts are so strong that she is going to continue kit-napping one of her sisters or brothers. And her mother doesn't seem to overly mind.

Anyway... trying not to empathise too much with her situation. Anyone feel this is indicative of how homo-sapiens are in similar situations?
